I found out this morning that Schwalbe Marathon Plus don't like 3" nails as shown. It went straight through and come out the side wall.

Unlucky. One of my M+ had a similar thing happen a couple of years back. It made me feel a bit cheated by fate to have bought a good quality tyre only to have it go way before its time to a 'tyre killer'.

I might be tempted to patch the inside of the tyre and maybe even try to weld the hole from the outside of the tyre too depending on how much of a gash it was but it would have to be more damaged than that for me to be able to justify the price of a brand new Marathon +. I am quite frugal though.
