Be careful as tyres are often not what they seem!

For instance there are 5 sizes of 20" tyres, and a 2 inch difference in diameter.


More accurate is the ERTRO numbers. These will be on the wheel in the format xxx-yy

xxx is the diameter of the bead, is accurate and fixed for that rim. yy is the width of the tyre.

Use these and you will guarrantee a fit

I put a set of continental travel contacts on my mtb in Sept and I doubt very much whether they will come off. Ever...

I run them at 70 psi on the road and a little lower on trails and towpaths so the teeth on the sides can get a look in when needed.

So far (touch wood) they have been superb, let me down a lot less than the old set of geax slicks i had. Just watch out for manhole covers when it is wet.

I fancy a set of them myself. I'm attracted by the fact that they should cope OK with my mix of road and towpath commuting.

I got some 27" x 1 1/4 back end of last year but only recently fitted them. They are a bit slower than I'm used to but not too bad for the added security of kevlar fairy proofness .

love them 1000+ miles over glass and all sorts no punctures

I am another travel contact fan: running them at 80psi on the road and around 60 psi on trails. Keep the label and receipt and if you puncture in the first year they will replace the tyre (or at least they used to) not that I have used it

Schwalbe Marathons are tough- but I found them very slippy in the wet & mud, Indeed I had a nasty 'off' on them due to the front tyre sliding out from under me on a not very fast turn... I prefer Conti Gatorskins... lighter & roll better too...imho...
