I finally gave in earlier this evening and switched the heating on, telling myself that apart from the fact it was daft to sit there shivering, I do need to run it to check that everything's working.
Half an hour later, I switched it off again. That was two hours ago and it's still far too warm in here.
It's either going to be a cheap autumn or I've now tempted the fates and the heating will stop working in the midst of a prolonged Arctic spell and I'll need to be defrosted by getting into the bottom oven of an Aga, like we used to do with the orphan-Annie lambs.

, even when it is warm. Nothing above 20c in the house but it is far too warm for me. I sit out in the kitchen with the back door open and all the other doors closed so the heat stays in all the other rooms, but not the kitchen. I can't wait for next April or May when it can go off completely.
