Is Noodley valuable as a Scotch treasure?

Your supping on new wine makers before indulging in the real Old World stuff in Paris then, Ape?
I still prefer the taste of France generally but that may be ignorance and tradition.

Yes. But I will be concentrating hard on Anne Marie Gilles when I get to the Salon at the end of the month. Rest assured rich, I have kept a few things aside for when I can entertain you on a pre-FNRttC ride (or perhaps après would be better). The Aus. SA wine is merely a stop gap. (as in the neck of the bottle fits between the gap in my lips) ;)

I'm no expert but I remember drinking some very nice Carmenere recommended by Malcom Gluck of Superplonk fame. I haven't heard of the grape from anywhere else but I have moved on to the 60% Longmorn my son bought me for my birthday so my memory may be.... What did you ask?

If this is going to be tonights wine thread then can I ask about Carmenere?

I picked up a bottle or two or three last weekend and it was enjoyed by all of us but without googling I wondered if you lot knew more about it? The label said "lost grape, only grown in Chile" which means nowt to me but sounds odd that it's only grown there.

As I said we enjoyed it which is surely the most important thing.

Budgens longers. Got one near you? Hardys Bin 343 or Arniston Bay 2008 as mentioned earlier is good for £4 a pop. 14% for the Arniston Cab Sauv. and 13+ % for the 343. Not as refined as French that have aged but a wallop for the money and full of flavour I think. The Chilean stuff is good too although slightly less strong - dunno. Carmenere is grown in Chile but came from Bordeaux originally - medium taste. All the western Cape ones particularly are 'full' + they are massive in alcohol.
(Anyone want to come to the salon? )

No Budgens near me 'Teef.

It's the Co-Op for all my wine purchases. Usually what's on offer. Muriel Rioja is back on full price  but I'm normally happy/easily pleased with what they have on sale.

A friend recommended Vinopolis - if that's the name - as a good experience of wine tasting in that there London. Is she right?

Yep. Vinopolis do the whole experience I think - a google will confirm. If you get stuck in London, just come round, or buy a ticket to Brighton where rich will look after you

As an edit: ~I am only getting what is on offer at Budgens but don't have a Co-op near. The balance of things last Xmas was that the Co-op had some decent stuff and Somerfield also - Budgens was rubbish...
Morale of this story is: B******* - whatever tastes good at a reasonable price is the best. After that, it all gets snooty and complicated. Equate it to riding a bike perhaps. It may be bling, it may have Dura-Ace, but if you do not have the capacity to enjoy - there will be a problem. The inverse being that one can take pleasure from the simplest of bicycles if one has the tools with which to appreciate them.

More than welcome!

How does the Salon work, Ape? Do you get an engraved 1/2 pint mug on entry along with 20 tasting tokens, a novelty beard and beret and a dribble stained T shirt like the brighton beer festival?

...or isn't it that sophisticated?:bicycle:

I forgot his oft mentioned tallness:smile::thumbsup:

I always think that smiley I just used looks a bit like a rictus.
