BTW, I never heard the term scoth before ?
Is that a typo or a regional thing ?

Just realised, I assume its a typo for scotch...although I never heard of them either:smile:

I went through a phase of making them years ago. Are they also called drop scones? I'd mix honey or maple syrup in the mix first, to get that authentic American feel

They are also often called drop scones.

They are normally about 3-4 inches across, and maybe 1/4 inch deep. We have bought ones moderately often, usually have a pack in the freezer.

Don't usually make those at home, tend to more often make the thin ones most of us call pancakes.

When we do make the drop scone type ones, they won't be nice and neatly circular, like the bought ones will be. Nor necessarily even in thickness.

And when I say "we", it is mainly my wife. I can make them, and do occsionally, but she is much more likley to do those.
