Brandane

The Costa Clyde rain magnet.
Considering that it's not in Scottish Borders...
Nor is Dumfries.
The OP title asked for Scottish BORDER towns. You're talking about Scottish Borders towns. Subtle difference, as you know...

Actually the OP asked 'what are the first two or three places that spring to your mind if you think about the Scottish Borders.' Watford, Corby or even New York are all perfectly valid, albeit somewhat strange, answers to that question.
But you're right about Dumfriesshire, which made up most of the Scottish West March and is therefore one of the Scottish border counties, though not part of the Scottish Borders local authority area.

Alemoor isn't as steep as the Woll and it's worth it for the views.

Nothing more to this question than I was just discussing this with friends today and we all had very different opinions of what towns would be widely heard of.
An old phone pick from nearer your end of the Borders. I resisted the temptation to pick the bike up and wave it over my head. ;)

And I loved the Rugby connection and the omitting of Melrose - that is just so funny ^_^ I need to tell a good friend of mine that one.
I am led to believe that there are even some people who stay in the Borders who do not realise Melrose are the best rugby team.
