A few years ago I took part in an event that had teams of 4 riders covering the 7 Stanes and the roads between in 24hrs. I was in the road crew. when we arrived at Ae, the midges were so bat we shut ourselves in the car until the MTB boys had completed the Stane and when I had to venture out to set the bike up for the next stage (lights) I had to cover completely up and us my buff as a balaclava. Was glad to get on the road.
