We used to play it with my mum, gran and great Aunt. My Aunt was very competitive and insisted that she could play a host of nonsense-sounding 2 and 3 letter words! So we ended up buying the Scrabble book. No-one really liked the fact that so many unheard of words were in there, but at least it made the rules consistent.

Two of my late aunts used to enjoy playing Scrabble.
They had one rule; if the word wasn't in the pocket Oxford Dictionary that was always to hand, it wasn't allowed.

I used to play. I think my highest ever score was about 525. I have a vague recollection of scribbling it on the back of the box but I can't check until I get back from bonnie Scotland.

I managed to lay "QUOTIENT" on a triple word yesterday and still lost to Ms AU!

How does that happen?
