Scram equipped bikes...

I don't have the right tech know how... so not sure if I can explain myself... basically - I'm looking for a road bike with Sram hoods/brake levers. I've tried Shim 105 equipped bikes, but found the hoods too unwieldy and didn't make me feel that confident in braking.

Otherwise - I guess you can swop over the parts?

I'm the same, I now have 3 roadbikes with SRAM (plus a flatbar actually). You can switch to a full SRAM groupset on a roadbike and sell on the 105 parts. IMO The SRAM Rival 22 is equivalent to 105 and offers best vfm. This is about the cheapest online right now (I actually bought a whole £500 road bike on special to get the parts)

To clarify do you want a whole bike or just the parts? If you don't yet have the bike, it's more cost effective to get a whole bike and save the hassle (although depending on needs and budget, there aren't that many out there with SRAM - you can spec Planet X or Dolan with SRAM though for example)

RRP the Rival 22 is over £500. My LBS would charge £200 for a full groupset switch if not buying the parts from them (others may be cheaper) but it's a reasonably sized job to do

Wheels cassettes and chains are interchangeable between Sram and Shimano the mech aren't as the pull ratios are different. You might be able to use the same front mech though.

SRAM appear to fit better for those with smaller hands, besides you have not mentioned a budget etc. Most bikes comes with shimano as they do something for every budget, where as SRAM is more than normal high end, i.e SRAM Force or RED.

There is Apex equivalent to Tiagra, Rival equivalent to 105. If you shop around the groupsets are a 'similar' price

I know I know but its not common, hence majority of bikes are Shimano equipped and if you go high end then SRAM Force or Red appear to compete with Dura Ace

How tall are you? You're more than welcome to try out one of my fleet at some point, I have 20 speed apex on carbon, 20 speed rival on steel and 22 speed rival on alu! I am 5'10 almost on a 54cm frame

My hands still ache on long descents especially even with SRAM so I would strongly suggest having secondary brake levers on the handlebars on any roadbike (ignore what the detractors say, it's better to be comfortable, confident and safe IMO). I have them on the steel bike, not the carbon or alu though

You won't need to spend £1500, Planet X do a wsd carbon for under a grand with rival 22, v nice bike. Sure they could fit the cross levers during the build if asked
