SD Card Speed/Class

Just a quickie, the higher the class of a SDHC the better, is that right and what class should I be looking for, class 4 or 5 ?

What do you want to use it for?

I think the problem with slower cards (lower class numbers) would mainly be when using them for storing video, especially HD video. If the card couldn't be written to fast enough, you could get 'stuttering' (jerky) recordings. I'd been thinking in terms of class 10, but I'm not sure whether that is necessary.

I had a quick search and some people said class 4 would be okay, others said class 6 and a few suggested class 10. I'd certainly go for at least class 6 to be on the safe side.

Seems to depend on the size of file. Higher classes being better for large files and worse for smaller files and class 4 being adequate for smaller stuff

it's all about the read/write speed. a digital camera for example is fine with a class 2 or 3,but a HD camera shooting at full 1080p really needs a class 6 or above imo

I'm hopefully getting a Garmin 800 for Christmas/Birthday :-)

I use a fast card in my DSLR and it makes a differance, i must have saved sooooooooo many nano seconds.

for a garmin class < 4 should be fine

The garmin won't need the speed ! Any good quality card.
