Thanks for the prompt response will look into your suggestion

Was hoping for a purely road set of pedals. The hybrid is the workshorse and the road bike is the racehorse!

Was looking at this combo:

with these shoes

would this set up work??

I was in a similar position to you last year. I bought the PDR 540 pedals and they are fine - however, when I bought my second bike (you will!) I plummed for the 105 version. The 105 is much better, more comfortable and wider so better power transfer. You can get them here with cleats for a good price

As for the shoes, they look fine. Re shoes, make sure you try them on in a shop as the sizing is a bit off sometimes. I'm normally UK11 but had to get 13 in cycle shoes.

I bought these and am very happy. http://www.evanscycles.com/products/specialized/bg-sport-road-shoe-2010-ec019531

If you can / want to spend more on shoes do so, the stiff the sole the better so go carbon if you can
You'll need some over shoes this time of year, I'd recommend neoprene as they are warmer and more water proof.
