No need. There is no such thing as a seagull. There are many varieties of gull, including Herring, Lesser and Greater Black Backed, and Black Headed, but no Sea Gull.

Plenty of gulls round my way, mostly Black Headed, which are common across the whole country.
And what's more, gannets aren't really gulls at all, they're more closely related to pelicans. Likewise other sea birds: terns, shearwaters, etc.; superficially like gulls but unrelated. However most of these others won't fly inland.

I think herring gulls are the most prolific 'invaders', nationwide. They love landfill. When the RSPB do their annual big Garden Watch, I reckon they just strike any gull reports off the list ...

Massive great Fulmar out side the front of my place and a huge Guillemot behind us.

P.S. If you look on the members map you will see what I mean.

We have far too many gulls. The council have talked about having a cull for years. Most locals would be happy with a cull but the last time it was talked about their was 3 girls protesting against it. They didn't even live here but the council decided not to go ahead.

Even to hint at culling any sort of wild bird - no matter how much of a nuisance - is going to be fraught with 'difficulties'

I can do no better than hand over to the immortal Tom Lehrer at this point.
