As long as I breathe, I attack.
For years i have used zaffiro pro as my goto winter / commuter tyre as they were a good compromise of price , toughness and ease of fixing but over the last few years the new design mark v is more slick and i am getting loads of chunks and nicks in the rubber that lead to more punctures .
The old design had more tread and thicker rubber and i have pairs that are years old and still going strong whereas i might get 3-4 months out of the new design for they are binned .
Can you still get the old model zaffiro iv preferably folding or can someone suggest alternatives for the budget conscious ?

I was going to recommend Rubino pro's. I've been happy with these for several years now, but googling the reviews, the Zaffiro's seem to have better puncture resistance, so I don't know.

Before the rubinos, I was using city contacts, plenty of tread, but lost confidence in them when I hit black ice.

I'm no authority on tyres, but I don't think you can blame City Contacts for falling off on black ice. Nothing is going to grip on that short of studded tyres. Still, I know that feeling of lost confidence, wondering if some other tyre exists that might just have given that extra nanosecond of warning in feel, and it takes time to regain it whatever you're using.
