on my old steel bike i used to copper grease the seat post to aid none sticking. the new bike as a carbon post(giant defy bike). does the seat post need any lube?

Yes, it needs some carbon assembly paste putting on it to avoid it slipping as you can not torque the bolts down as tight on carbon.

i would recommend Tacx - you can buy small sachets or a tube - whether it does it better than other pastes, I cannot say but it does the job. it contains a very fine grit, a bit like tooth paste, wouldn't surprise me if a get type toothpaste would do the same job at a tiny fraction of the price.

oh bugger. I've never put any paste compound on my seat post before.:blush:
