I am restoring a 1970's Eddy Merckx and i have noticed that the seat stay on the chain side of the bike splays out slightly wider than the the other and then curves back in very slightly. The wheels are in perfect alignment and the bike rides very well.Side ways on it is not noticeable. Is this likely to be a design feature or is it a bent frame and if so would it be relatively simple and cost effective to get it repaired or should I leave it as is if the bike rides ok? As i am sure will have guessed it is a steel frame. Any advice gratefully received.

If it's from the 1970s it was probably made like this. If you look closely at frames made in Taiwan today you see all kinds of alignment issues due to the nature of cheap mass production. It could however be damage - would need to see some pictues really.
