It's amazing, yes, but the music seems a bit too 'polished' as if it's been tidied up. I think I prefer the clunky charm of my hero Henry Dagg's pin barrel harp:

Was it Dagg who came up with that mad bicycle instrument? The Voicycle?

I think you're bang on about the music by the way, there's no chance that would be a quiet operation, but as a thing of invention and skill it's incredible.

It's an adaptation of jacquard loom technology and an embodiment of the technology demonstrated in this 2007 animation.

It's a bit like Babbage's difference engine - the design was there and it just needed someone with the technology and skills to make it.

A computer driven intermediate model is here:

I'd like to see some of them leave the computer and become working models.

That's what I like about Henry Dagg, he engineers his machines, and they're very 'home-made' but real. He has a fine collection of hand mincers, which can also be seen on YouTube. He's a rare thing, a true eccentric.

I must have a look. I'm going to have a go at making automata sometime soon.

Clearly a man of great taste... people find the pair of mincers on my mantle piece slightly odd. Then when they notice the rest*, it's me they find slightly odd.

*the other 7... I'm not in Henry's league... yet!

I expect you already know Tim Hunkin's work but if you don't, you'll love it too.

I love Tim Hunkin's stuff. His book, 'Almost Everything There is to Know' is wonderful. It's very similar to the Rudiments of Wisdom comic strips that he used to have published in the Observer.
