Seeing my (adult) children

i'm not a massive fan of all the commercialism and hype that surrounds Christmas, but it is great that I get to see my children. One lives in that London and one is fairly close but lives with her Mum. They both have busy lives and I don't get to see them as much as I'd like.

I get to see them for an hour or so on Christmas Day at my ex-wife's, but it's always a little bit strained.

So tonight we're all off out for a meal. With my wife and various others coming along it'll cost a small fortune, but it'll be worth every penny

I know what you mean. I really miss spending Christmas Day with my parents now they are gone. A big fry up for breakfast, a round of golf, the usual huge dinner with everyone then a snooze watching some daft movie on the box. I hope your night went well, and both of them enjoyed their time with you. The old saying, we're here for a good time, not a long time springs to mind. Enjoy.

Yet again my wife and I are delighted the boys, 30, 28, 24 come home for Christmas without a thought. Two are in long term stable relationships but they and their partners chose to go to their respective homes. Fortunately everyone is within 10-25 minutes drive which does help.

The last two years we've been very clear to say we understand if they want to be elsewhere.

Mrs P and I have been together every Christmas for 38 years.

Mind you even as adults they still revert to type when home!!!!

My parents have been very understanding of my Christmas non attendance since I moved 350 miles north of our home town, compounded by their move a few years earlier of 150 miles south west. A 1000 mile round trip at this time of year - no thanks, I'll see them in summer instead. The last time I spent Christmas with them must have been 1992.

Quite true.
