Alloy stem stuck fast in steel forks, lots of whitish deposit present. I am thinking of increasing the brute force I can apply by using a friends massive vice. I have also thought of trying to cool the components to break the bond or wondered whether there is a chemical solution that might work. Hoped that people might let me know what has worked for them without destroying either component.

Any ideas appreciated as this one has stumped me.

NB Tis a traditional 1 inch threaded setup.

Treat as per siezed seatpost. Putting the bars in a vise and twisting the forks worked for me ages ago. Make sure you grease them before putting them back in!

That didn't work for me when my LBS sold my wife a used Claud Butler some years ago with the stem seized solid. The result of my efforts was a still seized stem plus bent forks ...
