Finally did it - a 20 mile round trip. The journey into town along the A38 from Lickey to Birmingham city centre was good - a fair amount of downhill and very little traffic. Coming back was tough - a strong headwind and more traffic to cope with although 99% of drivers were very courteous. Just the one bus driver who will find himself the subject of a complaint when he gets to work. Cut me up trying to get to a bus stop before me and considering I looked brighter than the fairy on the top of the tree, he had no excuse.

Looking forward to having another go next week!

If it's anything like it was here tonight, you picked a windy day for it

Was on the drops and pushing it to do 13mph at one point

Well done. Soon enough you will be wanting to do the bike commute everyday.. and don't say I didn't warn you

I had that the other week. It was awful I struggled to get over 15mph for a lot of the trip home. Not cycled to work this week as I hate Halloween half term for cycling on night shifts.

Well done

I know how daunting the first ride is, but once you've done it once you'll be wanting to do it every day, I was exactly the same on my first day.

Was very windy last night but it was a good tailwind for me most of the way and got some nice little pushes up the normally tough uphills.

I struggled to get over 15mph for a lot of the trip home.

Lol I normally struggle to reach 15mph anyway

Congratulations. Should be a tailwind into town at the moment. Problem is that in the morning you will remember your fight back home against the wind better.
Did you give it a go today?

Working away from home until next Monday but will be back on the A38 then. My new overshoes will no doubt be getting their first outing! Not confident enough to do much filtering yet so homeward bound is slow but happy to sit in traffic to catch my breath (and a lungful of exhaust fumes).
