Ooh. A garage. One day, I'll be able to afford a house with one of those. In fact, I reckon I'd end up more or less living in it.

Hey; it's a workshop, not a garage!

At 3m square, it'll never have a car in it again (the last time was the night we moved in, 21/6/97)!

I found out last week that Piaggio are re-introducing the PX.
Really! I didn't know that - they're not those Indian copies are they?

Last time we had a scooter thread on here it turned into a "Soul Allnighter" - (I think Fab Foodie was involved)so be warned!!!!!

I've had several scoots(Vespas) in the past - the only reason I don't have one now is because I don't have a garage.

Shall we hijack this thread for all stuff scooter-related?

My ETS. It's currently in bits while I mechanically rebuild it

Very Nice!

My mate picked up a nearly new(<100miles) P(K?)125ETS back in the day(mid - late 80's) - we all had PX125's at the time.

His next door neighbour bought it for his wife as a commuter and she was terrified of it. So he decided to sell it - boy was it fast compared to the PX, it must have had another 15mph easy. It also handled and accelerated a lot better - but they were very rare even then. I think it would have given the P200E a run for it's money.

I believe it was an attempt to claw back some of the young Italians who were buying Yamaha RD's and the like???

As was the T5 - which I bought brand new in 1988(F269 RFS) - which in completely unrestricted(non 12bhp) form(with MIKECK exhaust, rejeted carb) was good for 85mph+ and fitted with SEBAC shocks and Bridgestone Battlax race tyres(good for 900 miles each!!!!!) would give all the RD's a run for their money!!!(I was only 19)

Out next month for a smidge under £3K!!!

Glad to see they've shed the hideous square(added in the mid 80's) horn cover and replaced it with the original version. Also looks like the original rear light is back too!!! With the clear indicators and front disc brake and new blue colour it's a very nice machine indeed.
All they need to do to get me to part with my readies is introduce a 200 version!!!!

Apparently this model wasn't dropped because of emissions after all - but because they didn't want it to compete with the new LX models - sounds like Vespa!!!

What gets me about the whole Vespa/Piaggio scooter fetish, is are people really just buying into the whole exotic 'La Dolce Vita'/Eddie Izzard 'Ciao....' sketch thing? Absolutely nothing wrong with that, it's just that from what I hear, Italians themselves tend to snap up Honda SH300s !

Heh heh!

About the same time as I passed my test and bought a brand new PX200E, a mate of mine chopped his PX125 in for an ETS. I realised why when I had a go- it was as fast as my 200 (though not as pactical 2-up, which was how I often was).

I wanted an ETS ever since. Bought this one in 2009, but I've been too skint to sort it...

Yeah, that new PX is smart. I like the idea of a new one, but it'd have to be a 200.

Pity they didn't go back to the MK1 headset top while they were at it!

Shame they won't fit the LML 4-stroke into the PX.
Or the "legendary" fuel injected two stroke that Piaggio were always working(developing) on - didn't use two stroke oil/fuel mix so was cleaner and more efficient(no blowback through the carb). Apparently they spent £000's on it!!!! :becool:

Not for me, no. I had a PX125 12 years ago, and loved it. It's got far more character than the plastic automatic alternatives. Twist grip gear change, foot rake, kick start. And proper scooters are classics
+1,

Me neither - bought my first scoot 25 years ago and was fully immersed in the whole scooter rally scene and all it's many youth cults. It was my only form of motorised transport and I covered 18,000miles in one year - to work, leisure use and holiday/touring!!!! I had a full licence for my scooter 4 years before my work forced me to get one for a car(van).

A mechanic who was in our scooter club(Coyotes) had a T5 engine in a PX(before vespa thought of it) and it left all the 200's for dead. So when I passed my test I went for the T5 - it was actually ok 2's up with the standard exhaust, but with the after market handmade exhaust it was hard work keeping it in the powerband. You had to constantly keep changing gear.
The high revs of the T5 ate piston rings like they were going out of fashion(1500miles) and required a new piston for every three sets of rings. Not to mention having to fit specially imported Japanese racing plugs at 7 times the price of a bog standard NGK as the standard electrodes would burn away. I don't think air cooled scooter engines were designed to rev at 11,000rpm.
I had to eventually give in and buy a P200E - a scooter I would quite happily ride around the world.:becool:

Same as that, except the most I managed in one year was 10,000 miles.

Got first scooter (a 150 Super that I couldn't legally ride) in 1983. Sold it & bought a 50 Special, got banned for a year  , passed bike test in 1985, car test in 1987...
