hi all,

I'm not sure if this is the correct location in the forum for advice on this, but I was wondering if you could help.

I will shortly be looking to sell a couple of consoles and games, and will probably use a service such as Music Magpie/similar, as I don't want to risk someone not paying for the goods.

Have you had experience with people such as this, and what did you find the easiest way to deal with them?

Thanks in advance.

Hi

What consoles and what games? Depending on their desirability, there could be demand amongst collectors.

My Niece and Nephew have used Music Magpie several times and seem to like their service.

I guess if your happy with the price being offered then it's the simplest way of getting shut and therefore a no brainer, but you will get considerably more selling through alternative methods.

If you are concerned about eBay scammers and the like then there are safeguards to employ to protect yourself.

I know it sounds silly bit if you can keep them safe and have the space wait until November/December time and then advertise them through the local ads. Facebook page or Gumtree.

I did this a couple of years ago and with Christmas around the corner (yes I said it shoot me now) they won't be hanging around long and you should get a decent price for it all.

Do you have a CEX shop near you? Basically a pawnbroker for electronics and games.
Might be worth getting a quote from them too.

Gumtree. pro's: free to advertise, cash on collection, good if you have a large pool of local buyers.
con's: You might get offers like "part x for a staffy puppy m8?"

E-bay: Pro's: Easy, massive pool of buyers
con's: flooded market, might not get the best price, have to go post office and pay £12 for postage, seller fees (unless cash on collection)

Game shops: Pro's: average deal if you want to buy something else in store. less hassle.
Con's: you won't get a good deal for simply selling, they want to pay you %60 market value so they can sell on for %110 market value.

Music Magpie: Comparible to "we buy any car". They give you a low price becasue they want to sell it on, but for smaller things you get a nice box to pack it in and arguably less hassle.

Thanks. I think I'll write down a list of what I have when home this weekend, and then check what people will offer for trade in, and also have a go on Music Magpie, where hopefully their app will allow me to simply scan some barcodes.

Thanks for all the help
