Sending flowers

I reallise that some of you may never have done this, but for those who have: -

If I would like to send someone some flowers, can you recommend how best to do it. I ask this because I was once sent some flowers and they were not what I expect the sender hoped for. But it is one of those situations where you won't know what the person received.

I thought about finding a good Florist in the town (Coventry) and explaining directly what I would like, and them delivering them, rather than using a Franchise or whatever they are called - Tinterflora ?

Any one got any good suggestions please?

They are to send to my mother next week.

I haven't had any problems with the well known brands but that is probably to do with usually selecting a bouquet from a catalogue so it was easy for the locally franchised florist to make up to match.

Special orders can be a problem if the local franchise don't have the same stock available and have to use other flowers to make up the bouquet to price.

It may be easier to talk to the local florist who will be making up the bouquet to see what they can do.
That is one advantage of the franchise, you can look up the one local to your mum and phone them direct.

There are dozens of flower seller websites, Interflora is just one. All they do is act as agents for local florists. You pay them the lolly and they choose the nearest local florist and pass the order on. Simple.

Alterntively use Yell.com to find the nearest florist, ring them and do it over the phone.

I use websites in the USA to send Xmas and birthday presents to my brother there. The internet is a wonderful thing.

You can pick anything from the Interflora website.

If the florist don't have the particular blooms, they send the delivery chap out to the wholesaler.

The wholesaler in Coventry is in Torrington Avenue.

Been there, done that, got the tee shirt.

Most popular is the 'Hand tied'.

Personally though I think flowers are a huge rip off, I prefer to get the missus perfume it lasts a lot longer for about the same money.

I would agree with you on that, particularly near Mother's day etc. The circumstances next week are unusual in that she is not well at present, and it is the anniversary of my father's death next Thursday. Long story short, I cannot be there on Thursday, so I thought flowers would be a good gesture instead.

I know her favourite perfume, but she rarely uses it. I know that she likes the smell of fresh flowers.

Jimboalee, Torrington Avenue is not far from my mother's house, but that is wholesalers. I expect I could find a good florist in Earlsdon. There is someone on this forum who lives in Earlsdon, the chap who got married this summer, can anyone remember his name?

+ 1. Would also recommend the 'flowers in a box' that are delivered by the Royal Mail. Try www.bunches.co.uk if interested.

Always find them good quality. Have ordered from M & S (crap) and Tesco (good) before too.

well the presumption is that there are local florists, and that at least one of them is a good 'un. Some florists are kind of cheesy, and some florists content themselves with sending out flowers that are on their last legs in the name of art. So, unfortunately, it's worth spending Saturday morning running around in search of the best. And, if it's any consolation you'll probably know if the florist is good the second you walk in the door.

Here's the rub. Bunches of flowers get better the more expensive they are. By which I mean that a basic bunch, at about thirtyfive quid delivered, is nowhere near as nice as a fifty quid bunch. Which is definitely not what you wanted to hear. It's an expensive habit to get in to.

Google "florist" and the name of the town, then phone up a few of them and ask about delivery, I find it is much cheaper that Interflora...

Whenever i've done it i've just rung up a florist near where the person lives, it's so much cheaper than the major internet companies and a much nicer product.
