Senna - The Movie

Go and see it, preferably on the big screen. Even if you're not a motor racing fan, it's a truly great film. My mother and my girlfriend both loved it, and they can't tell one end of a racing car from another. Easily one of the best films I've ever seen.

Heard the Director(?) talking on the Radio about the 3 year mission to compile and edit the archive footage.
His 1st cut was 7hrs long. Then 5hrs. Then 3hrs. All those involved in the process had their favourite bits.

love thew film, bit young so didnt really see how exceptional Ayrton really was. i went to work the next day and some guys was comparing Jenson to Senna after the Canadian GP. tut

I remember Senna's death well, and I suppose that all the safety things they brought in over the years kind of took the element of danger out of it all, hence why I found it boring after a while. A double edged sword between danger and safety, I know.

Oh yes, and after Senna, Schumacher won EVERYTHING, so it all became as dull as ditch water to watch ....not to mention that thing about how drivers couldn't overtake without some small miracle happening, etc etc.

A bunch of Petrolheads all driving round and round? nah, I could just go to my local roundabout and see that ....and get knocked off my bike, complete with some colourful language from the offending driver for the privilege!!

No. Nonononono. Go to the cinema and watch it on an enormous screen at a volume just under the pain threshold through about sixty massive speakers dotted around the auditorium. It's worth it. Go and do it now.

You might think that, but you've only got to see the footage of Tom Pryce hitting a track marshall at nearly 200mph and having his head pretty much taken off by the fire extinguisher the marshall had been carrying, or the footage of David Purley trying (and failing) to rescue a still - conscious Roger Williamson from a burning car a few years earlier to realise that anyone who says the element of danger lent some excitement to the sport is, well, talking bollocks. The advances in safety in F1 have been an unqualified good thing in my book.

I did see it a while ago, and whilst Im not sure it has much of an appeal to non-F1 fans (I went on my own so cant really answer that one), it did fully explain why many consider Senna to be the best driver ever (despite what the record says). Unlike the corporate automatons of today, he truly had the sport in his 'heart',

If my mum and auntie enjoyed it, then trust me, it has appeal to non-F1 fans.
