Imagine the increase in licence fees if Donny T sues the BBC's asses. OTOH there may not be a BBC after that.
There is no crime committed against Donny 1% Truth .
Fact is Trump would owe the BBC billions for his daily slanders.

If you don't watch TV or care much for television programmes in general then don't have a TV. I suspect most people who own one but fall into this category would find they could happily live without one.

This thread also seems to have morphed into the value of the BBC/licence fee. There is a thread over on NCAP related entirely to his which may be of interest 😂 I still think if you want high quality television, news and radio, the BBC is unmatched in the UK. If you compiled a list of the most popular, influential and acclaimed British sitcoms, dramas, docs of all time, the overwhelming majority in most peoples eyes would have been made by the BBC.

I have had Netflix and Amazon accounts but it really is just content for the sake of it. There is an argument that all the best talent is now flocking to streaming services but personally I feel 99% of it is dross, entertainment wise and intellectually speaking.

...and particularly high quality edits of peoples speeches!

That speech was an hour long, editing the bejeezus out of it was a public service broadcaster doing a solid public service 😉

My cathode ray TV burnt out several years ago and I didn't bother replacing it with a digital one. Whenever I get bored I look at the Freeview TV guide on the internet to see if I am missing anything. I'm not.

This reminds me of this short story

I really don’t get this ‘not having a TV’ malarkey. For instance, I’m watching the Grand Slam of Darts just now, very enjoyable, then will go up to bed and read for a bit. Reading and TV are two totally different mediums and both stimulate different parts of my brain, but I couldn’t imagine life without either.

Then again, I really don’t get vegetarianism.

TBH the Beeb could find a cure for cancer and bring about world peace and I still wouldn't be interested.

Their output is largely unappealing to me, and I find the funding model highly objectionable in principle. If others like it then all power to them.

Most other countries either enforce it on every household or add 1% or so to income tax.
In the current supercharged misinformation world I think a national broadcaster is very important.

Last time I checked we're not most other countries, so its an irrelevant observation.

The current crisis at the Beeb has been brought about because of their latest effort at supercharged misinformation. Being a national broadcaster hasn't made them immune from that, the last 3 years alone being littered with examples of their ability to drop a, sometimes wilful, misinformation clanger.

Being a national broadcaster also hasn't stopped them hiring a stream of perverts and trying to cover it up. As recently as Huw Edwards the Beeb were making efforts to keep news of such antics getting out.

Being a national broadcaster hasn't changed the fact that despite promises and assurances they never seem to learn.

People who continue to fund them without question are complicit in this. I choose not to be.
