I tried something like this ages ago for a sad story in the 'stolen bikes' section.

Unfortunately you won't even get £1 out of most CCers when it comes to donating to a complete stranger no matter how sad the story is.

a strange [unwarrented.?] statement.!
some years ago on Talk Photographer we clubbed together to get a disabled bed-ridden ex-forces member a state-of-the-art Canon DSLR, with remote controls and brackets to fit his wheelchair

cannot beleive CCers are any different to TPers....................

Good luck with that we had a bike stolen from our bike shed at work, a bike to work one and our employers done nothing, should of used better locks then was their reply

True, he has perhaps questions to answer, but to my mind he's paid by the employer to guard their property, not the cyclists to guard bikes.

If you presume someone else is covering yo' ass you'll be proven wrong sooner or later.

It would be right, but in my eyes the security guards office is six feet away, facing it, and a total stranger wandered in and took it
It could well have been the security guard who took it, often they are the biggest thieves a company employs.

I almost know the feeling. I didnt get my bike nicked but I did get pushed off my bicycle by some ass. Nearly kissed the front of a car as a result too. I wanted to kill the little ****er who did it and I literally mean kill him, but he was with his mates and I would have ended up even worse if I did try to mutilate him. That was one of the most angriest moments in my life.

I do not read the Daily Mail..... however

I often see how the lack of confidence that such an incident instils in the elderly and turns a competent and capable person into someone who is increasingly isolated

There should be some way of taking this into account when they sentence the individuals

It's totally unreasonable to expect an employer to stump up for a replacement bicycle that was stolen because you hadn't used adequate anti theft devices or insured it against theft.

Can we set something up to buy the guy another bike to hopefully lift his faith in human nature?

Anyone from Sunderland with links to a bike shop perhaps?
An excellent idea, and I'd be more than happy to donate something, despite living a hell of a long way from Sunderland. Just provide payment details, and I'll send something.
