Have any of you done much sewing lately? I sewed up a pair of Regatta hiking trousers where the stitching had come undone above the knee and it is quite a satisfying and theraputic activity.

I do hand sewing and machine sewing.

Recently I made a flag and pair of large capacity panniers for my Ratrike, and the fabric 'hopper' for my trailer. I also made new denim pockets for a pair of jeans that had stupid tiny pockets made out of easy tear, rice paper thin fabric.

I did dress making when I was a teen and was making my own clothes during the begining of the 'New Romantics' era so sewing is a doddle.
During my Furniture design course I also learnt to sew upholstery fabrics to make upholstered seating and cushions.

I've got a kit with nine stitches left so I'm waiting until I can use them all in one go.

I tend to reinforce clothing where it looks shoddy... and a lot a of shoddy stitching comes from TK Maxx, as do many of my clothes. I have three sewing machines but never use any of them (2 antique, one modern in need of repair)... they're too damn noisy!

I've been looking for the 'perfect' rack pack this year but nothing comes close to suiting my needs... so am toying with the idea of making one.

so yes, I sew, but only when i have too. It's a chore.

I once had to sew a button to a 4 inch square of cloth for a proficiency badge in cubs ......... when i got home my mum made me unpick it and put it back in the button jar.

I have just realised that this is not one of my best anecdotes.

I can sew but haven't for some time. I have an ancient Singer Hand Sewing Machine that is in need of a service as well

Ooh, ooh! I know a thing (courtesy of Night Train, as a matter of fact). On your machine, there should be a plate with a serial number. Look here:

http://www.singermachines.co.uk/faq/vintage-sewing-machine-serial-number-list/

And you should be able to find out where, and in which year, it was made. (look at the additional questions at the bottom of the page)

I think mine turned out to be Clydebank, 1915.

I can repair holes in my cycling kit. My wife has made me a number of base layers and skull caps (for under the skid lid) out of powerdry fabric.

My missus is very much into sewing - it's as bad as my cycling habit. N+1...hah... 2 computerised touch screen sewing/embroidery machines (one was over £3.5k) 1 overlocker, 1 computerised overlocker, and an old sewing machine for the kids.

So she has 5 machines and a bike. That means I still have room for n+2 to get even  not !
