He's not alive. He was killed in the Apollo 23 disaster.

Saw them play V Festival last August and wondered the same. I could understand the lyrics when he was singing, but when he spoke in between songs didn't manage to fathom a word he said. He came on stage with an arm in a sling and a drink in the other hand, and smoking. Managed to knock the microphone stand flying and when it was put back it got thrown down again. Enjoyed the performance though - probably best set I saw at V.

Given that he's been drunk since 1975, how does MacGowan manage to stay on the planet let alone manage to remember most of the words?

Didnt you know...pickling preserves most things:biggrin:

Works for Keef Richards and Ronnie Wood. Officially the oldest men off the planet

Speaking of Shane McGowan I saw the Pogues very early on in their career. They did a short set during which time Shane McGowan drank a whole bottle of whiskey and hit himself on the head with a tea tray a lot. He used it as some sort of percussive instrument.

I'm afraid I find it desperately sad. The man's health is wrecked and I can't feel other than sadness for him. I certainly don't find it amusing. I just imagine how I'd feel if he were a relative.

It is quite sad and all we can do is thank him for writing some of the best music we have to listen to today. If it was the booze that gave him the inspiration to write, then it's also the case that it's given with one hand and taken away much more with the other.

We're assuming that he is the person we think he is. There may just be a bit of showbiz about him.

I saw Tom Waits in 1977. He was a booze and drug addled wreck. Allegedly

I'm quite shocked, my friend Sarah and I saw him in concert in winter of 2002, he looked in much better health then. Sad how someone so talented can drink themselves to Ill health like that.
