!Anyone else had problems with these. My bike is only 6 weeks old, a Cannondale carbon six with 105 groupset. Its been a pain in the arse since i bought it.I have taken it back to Evans at Gatwick and is going to take a month to get the new part.
Customer service at this so called bike shop is so bad that i wouldn,t let them near a shopping trolly.
It seems to me that once you have spent your hard earned cash, nobody wants to know without giving them more money.

I have 105 on my roadbike. It has been 100% reliable since the off, about 1300 miles since.

I think you realise that adjustment/maintenance is the key. Go to a good lbs when you get it fixed. Mind you, how Evans can take such a time to get a prt is beyond me. Why not offer to get the part yourself and deduct it from Evans' bill? (I bet that would go down like a lead balloon!)

The front shifter on my 105's broke about 5 weeks from new. The shifter wouldn't keep the chain on the big ring, kept slipping onto the small one. Some part inside the mechanism had sheared apparently.

Having had it replaced for a while now it's apparent that it was dodgy from day 1, but not having had STI shifters before I didn't know any better.

When mine broke I googled and found similar symptoms reported on various websites...

re what someone said above - my ultegra kitted bike changes from the middle ring to the small ring occasionally of it's own volition. Is this, then, an incurable sti shifter problem?

Reject the bike and get yer money back, then get one from somewhere that gives a...That will give them something to think about.

Evans IMHO is top drawer prices and bottom drawer service. That level of customer care is beyond contempt. Take a bloody part of one in the warehouse FFS.

I'd be inclined to agree with Gerry...

Same thing happened to my Cannondale cyclocross 105, bought from Evans in Milton Keynes.

Evans changed the shifter as soon as the importer provided a replacement, competently and without fuss. Took a few days, not a big problem.

I've since read that these 105 shifters are for both double and triple chainrings. When used with a double set up, it's possible to "over-shift", effectively over to the third chainring position, putting too much tension into the cable and snapping a plastic part inside the shifter.

Armed with this knowledge I'm now shifting carefully up from the small to the large chainring and I'm not getting any of the stuck/stiff shifting problems I had before and which ultimately led to the breakage of the first shifter.

I realise I may not have explained this terribly well but I hope you get the drift.

I'm sure there was a third report about dodgy 105's. My shifters "went" after about 200 miles in April 09, a different bike shop changed them for new ones under the Shimano warranty. Just as well they're £250 for a pair! Shop only charged me £15 for labour
