I've currently got a GT moutain bike (3x7 speed) which I mainly use for commuting. Its got Shimano Altus 10 shifters and derailiers and Acera crankset. I've recently had issues with wear and tear so would like to replace some worn out bits but at the same time upgrade and convert the bike to a make-shift hybrid.

I'd like to upgrade the cassette and crankset to Shimano Deore LX (HG70) but keep the Altus 10 shifters and derailiers. Anyone know if this is advisable or even possible???

You can upgrade and keep shifters - just keep the same number of sprockets.
