Shimano Alfine 8 Internals Compatibility

My SG-S501 hub does not shift down under its internal spring. No idea if it is fixable but I want to replace the internals.
Most of the 8 speed complete hubs on ebay are SG-S7000 series.
Do the 7000 8 speed internals fit into the SG-S501 shell ?
I need a new habdlebar shifter, does the SG-S7000 take a different shifter ?
Does anyone know a source of internals that would work?

Sorry can't help directly but I'd be tempted to tempted to buy a second hand one attached to a wheel and complete with shifter and then if it doesn't fit in the shell then just replace the complete wheel.
