Shimano brake/gear shifter gear barrel afdjuster thread.

I had to remove an old gear barrel adjuster with mole grips as it was stuck fast.

I bought a pack of 2 new ones but it will only screw in as far as the old one was jammed. In my naivety I thought maybe I could re-thread it by trying to screw it back in with the mole grips but the metal on the adjuster thread was too soft and just broke. Managed to get it back out ok.

Do I need think about rethreading it with a tap and die or just reside myself to buying a new shifter? Maybe Adding an inline adjuster instead? What's the easiest option?

Should tap ok - lbs should have just the one to fit

M5 tap should do the job

Took it to my work places workshop and they tapped it for me. Didn't think it was that easy.
