You just need the tool thingy, you do not need the chain whip, so, you are correct.

but the chain whip helps the tool thingy to unfasten the lock ring.

Oh, crikey, now it's getting really complicated. Will instructions for numpties come with the cassette when it arrives?
probably not. but go to youtube, search shimano cassette removal/installation.

in about 3 minutes 50 seconds you will know all there is to know about it.

You don't need the whip to install a new cassette, but you'll need one if you want to get an old cassette off.

User. If it is a Shimano Hyperglide cassette you just need to remove the locking nut and the cassette will lift off.

How do you remove the locking nut?

Using a locking nut removal tool and an adjustable spanner.

The question was about INSTALLING. No chain whip needed.

The topic then drifted onto REMOVING. Chain whip is needed (or a massive amount of jiggerypokery)
