Shimano Claris --> 105: What do I need to do?

New to cycling, planning on switching my Claris groupset to the 11 speed 105 (5800) groupset.

I'm just wondering if I need to buy anything else in addition to the 105 groupset? (this is the one I'm planning to buy: 105 groupset)

I know the Claris is 8 speed but I'm a little bit confused whether I need to change out my rear hub/get a new rear wheel or not (I currently have Axis Classic wheels, on a Specialized bike). I did a search and couldn't find a straight answer to this.

Anything else/fun surprises I need to be worried about for making this upgrade?

Not too sure but you may need a new rear hub. I'm sure someone will be along with the definitive answer soon.

Get the correct hub from your LBS and get them to build it into your existing rim. Should be about forty quid plus the rebuild.

PS. Looks like 11speed is not available in 105 so you might have to go to Ultegra which is seventy quid, unless you can find an alternative.

Are they DT axis or just the plain Axis wheels? @Globalti sold a bike a while back with the Axis 1.0 wheels from a 2014 (Specialized) Roubaix SL4, and they had a 10 speed cassette on them no problem. Hopefully they have a small spacer at the back that can be removed to allow for 11 speed, I wouldn't be able to remember if the ones he sold had one.
Info on the web is very sketchy in regards to the DT, Axis and Fulcrum wheels that Spesh put on their bikes.

Because they're a wheel built for Specialized

That's what I reckon. Built as cheaply as possible to keep costs down as they know people will upgrade them soon. Saying that, though, they're not too bad speed-wise, compared to more expensive wheels.

If the bike is new it would have probably been cheaper to buy a bike with 105 in the first place, although the Claris may have some value for someone with old 2300 for example

What is it?
