Does anyone know if the R2000 left hand shifter can be used as a triple, is it just marketing and they sell the same shifter under R2030?

I had a look on the parts diagram and as far as I can tell both versions use the same looking main lever assembly and the name badge is different but that isn’t to say the ratchet isn’t slightly different.

Any ideas, considering converting a hardtail to drop bars.

triples have an extra click for the middle gear , if you have a double you can use it with a triple by setting the h/l but i doubt you can use a double as a triple assuming you want to access all 3 rings

My hardtail currently has a triple front mech but my road shifter is a double. Was hoping to get away with not changing the chainset but it sounds like Shimano have changed it as you used to be able to on previous versions of Claris .

My experience is with the double and triple versions of Sora R221 flat bar STIs. The triple is as you'd expect, but the double had more adjustment than needed for a double, so it might be usable. I never had a reason to experiment, so don't know for sure.
