shimano front derailleur green plug

Hello, I have an NOS shimano deore xt front derailleur, I am in the process of fitting, It has a green plug type thing attached, presumably to stop movement in transit, like a lock. Anyone on the forums know the safest way to remove said plug from the derailleur? Thanks
