Can you give me some examples?
Well the electronic shifting enthusiast are starting to cross platforms and work out how to mix the group set components from EPS, Di2 and Ui2 as such you should soon be able to take the very best of each group set component.
There are also efforts towards creating standards methods for powering things such as GPS and trackers in the system, this is a really great thing as it will make modifications more compatible moving forward.
I'm also really impressed with the work going on with the diyshift.com project which will bring electronic shifting to the hobby and enthusiast market.
Sequential shifting although interesting technically remains currently disappointing as fairwheel are not making the price public, and so far all fitments have been done to new and bespoke bikes...Until such time that its widely and publicly available, its nothing more than an interesting concept imho. I also think the price may not be mentioned as its unfinancially viable at this time.
