Shimano Tiagra brake level...front or back?

I've got this Shimano Tiagra brake lever.
Is it for the front or the back brake? Or can it be used for either? Thanks

Either. The only decision you need to make is which lever operates which brake ( F or R).

The only thing to watch out for is the length if the bolt on the back if its short it'll only fit in the back, and if its long if you use it in the back it'll look ugly and you'll catch it often.

that’s a rear caliper, the bolt isn’t long enough to fit on the front

Long thread for the front (through the fork) and short for the rear (brake bridge)

From the photo below, the shaft is about 27mm. So is it front or rear?

Cancel that question...it's a front one for my bike.
Rear caliper shaft is only about 15mm.

That type of bolt is designed for front fork. But it’d be easy enough for you to put on your front fork and see. Some fork crowns are deeper than others.

That's actually an example of how I came by my 'username' on here. Someone posted about drilling out a rear brake bridge to fit a modern caliper with a 'sleeve nut' to an old Raleigh* and I passed on a tip I'd been given, if you use that on the rear and simply fit a suitable sized 'nylock' nut then you don't need to drill the back out to fit the 'sleeve nut'

* the Raleigh in question had a thin tube as a brake bridge and to drill it to 10mm to fit would have left it dangerously thin, this trick also works on other brands of vintage bikes too.

And also re @raleighnut comment above the Allen key inserts come in different lengths so with a long one sometimes and only sometimes you can use a rear on the front.
But then the cable could look odd as it will be on the wrong side.
