I decided to tighten the adjuster barrel on my tiagra rear mech (spech allez elite) as the high gear was skipping a lot (refusing to engage often).
I assumed a simple tighten would do the trick.
It didnt.
So I decided to start from scratch, I let off the cable from the rear mech and adjusted the barrel to the max (clockwise) so that I could tighten it from the smalles cog (high gear) position.
I turned the crank and adjusted the barrell til it moved up a gear, then I selected the next gear and turned the crank...
Nothing...the gear selector wont move any more (seems over tight) yet if I loosen it I cant select the smallest cog (high gear).
I appreciate I can wheel her into the LBS but I really want to understand whats happening and fix it myself.
Any helpful advice or web resources would be greatly appreciated.
