The Missus rang me today to let me know that my new bike had arrived (Specialised Allez 16). I'd ordered it on Sunday from 'Trendz' and was a bit peeved 'cos I'd paid a tenner for next day delivery so it should have come yesterday. I'll be asking for the tenner back then. Anyway, I pedalled home from work as fast as my little legs would propel me, hoping to get a quick ride in before nightfall.

Awaiting me in the hall, a perfectly sealed, undamaged box containing a lovely shiny new bike.....minus the pedals! Despite being ticked off on the checklist by 'J.S.' they were missing, along with the receipt and tools (which were also ticked as checked.)

Anyway.......mistakes do happen., so I'm not too upset. I've fired off an email, which I'll follow up by phone tomorrow. The sign of a good company is how quickly they rectify any mistakes.

By the way, the bike looks stunning in silver. I haven't ridden a road bike since my teens, so I'm really looking forward to going for a blast. I'm even tempted to swap the pedals form the Dawes, but I'll be patient. I think.

That looks like a good deal you got there. Personally I'd take the pedals off anything to have a go before the proper pedals arrive!

I'll openly admit I'm dead jealous actually. The recent sunny weather and my new found enthusiasm for cycling has revealed a never before encountered desire for a nice bit of drop handlebar eye candy and I am drawn to the GT GTR series 3 (just because I like GT's) but with 5 bikes in the household already and 2 of them mine it would mean divorce if I bought another one

Personally I'd nail some old pedal spindles to the soles of my bare feet rather than wait a few days to try a new bike :hyper:

It usually takes 3-4 days of tinkering before any new bike of mine is screwed together and adjusted to suit my human frame.

I very very very very nearly went for the GT GTR series 4. Evans had the 2010 model for just over £400, which put it in the same price range as the Allez. The GT GTR 4 looks absolutely wicked in (Kawasaki) green! I did find though, that after looking at several billion (so it seemed) reviews that the Allez just came out tops.

I think I'll whip the pedals off the old Dawes Tanami to go for a spin tomorrow. I've just fitted the Crud Road Road Racer 2 mud guards to the Allez......after 10 minutes of head scratching, they're actually a doddle to fit, and seem to work really well for such a tight fit.

Yes, it was a mention of the discounted GTR 4 that got me hankering for the road bike experience, it does look brill in the green but supply of that seems to be drying up now and as usual I start talking myself up to a higher model/spec once I look at them in closer detail (ooh... that ones got unobtainium spokes and 36 gears, I NEED it!).

If you've got any pedals then just stick them on, the standard pedals that come with your new bike will probably not be much good if they are the same as those that came with my Specialized Secteur. I changed mine within a week of getting the bike - I've reused the Secteur pedals on my old commuter bike.

A week? Mine lasted the 2 miles it took to get it home, then the clippy ones from my hybrid went on.

I assume the OP means Tredz? Had no problems with them other than stuff appearing on the site that only once ordered becomes apparent they are out of stock, they still usually get it to me within the week so can't complain too much.

The Allez is very nice. I've had mine (also the silver one) for 4 months and love it. Stick any pedals for now. Enjoy it!

Tredz say the pedals should be here on Friday. I've banged the Dawes' pedals on for now. I was going to wait, but my new Durano Plus tyres arrived today so I fitted them and took her out for a spin around the block to check the gears are set up o.k. Now I'm ready for my 1st ride to work tomorrow on the Allez. I'll have to 'rucksack it' until the seat post mounted rack arrives.

My my, the Allez seat is firm! Will I be able to walk when I get home tomorrow after 10 miles each way?
