shipping a bike or checking it in on the plane?

I'm starting to think about getting the bike back.to the UK as I'm just one day from the Virginia state line.
I flew it out with us air..thought it might be better to get it shipped back.though...has anybody had any experience of shipping the bike instead of flying it ?

Not sure I'd fancy the extended journey time in terms of potential damage etc.

I've never done it TBH, but I have flown my bike before without any issues, although I did use a hard bike case.

I don't know what packaging you have access too, but I'd probably stick with air freight TBH.

Is there a bike shop around near the airport to pack it for you in a nice cardboard bike box? Much easier )
