Cycling down Meanwood road, Leeds (the works start at the right arrow and carry on just to around the bend) approaching some traffic works on the left hand side with a slight corner , as I was overtaking said works I shoulder checked and found a BMW trying to force itself past me, little did the driver know but I was staying in said lane to turn right a little further on but they insisted on trying to overtake whilst with oncoming traffic. Said daft tart then realised I wasnt moving and undertook me with some pleasantries exchanged I pootled on my merry way, it then occurred to me, this was the same car and driver who did the exact same maneuver six months ago with the exact same verbal discussion!!

Serious changes need to happen in terms of law, education and awareness if this country is not to be left in the dark ages, will it happen? Never, more cyclists filling up the big velodrome in the sky

Some people should not be driving. And cyclists should be judges !

We could always apply to be Magistrates. I did it and got through to the second interview, but my work/life balance changed and I withdrew. They say it's a fascinating thing to do. And you see A LOT of driving offences....

I have this feeling you might have had a little difficulty in taking an entirely unbiassed view of road traffic offences.

I'm not saying that's a bad thing of course^_^

I know it's a radical concept... but maybe a module on 'sharing the road with other road users (not just motor vehicles)' should be a compulsory aspect of driving lessons and the test.

Surprisingly they only teach you "forward backward left right" and not to hit things. I have had bad passes from driving schools and it saddens me that most instructors won't correct it.

Perhaps it was a misunderstanding because she missed your earlier signal to turn right before the junction and you forgot to check earlier...

Someone tried to overtake me on Sunday - my lad was about 10m in front, the road narrow with cars each side. The car started to squeeze past, and if he'd have got through he would have probably come way to close to my son, so I accellerated, filled the gap and kept in primary. The driver backed off.

Probably knew my MTB has a reputation of mangling cars !

I find a lot of potential 'squeezers' respond quite well to me showing my palm as if to say 'keep back a bit'... bit of a wave or thumbs up after the event usually results in a wave back and all seems good in the jungle.

Sharing the road with all road users is part of the curriculum, an Approved Driving Instructor should be teaching this. The good ones. They do exist. If you live anywhere close to a Driving Test Centre, you will see numerous earners, you can usually tell they good instructor, because he is alert. Not admiring their scrotum!

Surprisingly they only teach you "forward backward left right" and not to hit things. I have had bad passes from driving schools and it saddens me that most instructors won't correct it.

The first sentence, is I am afraid to say only too true. Most instructors only teach what is needed to pass the test, in my opinion. Fiscal pressure from mum/dad & pupil is the main constraint. Also, a general lack of will for improving road safety from Department for Transport. The minister, is only concerned about pass rates, not a drivers ability to safely interact with other road users.

Disappointed. I thought it came with a black cap.

Sadly not. And you only get to wear robes if you sit in the City of London (they want to phase them out but as you can imagine the existing beaks don't want them to!). I would recommend going to sit in at a Magistrate's court if you have an hour or two spare in any given large town though. Fascinating.
