I have RST Gila lockout forks with Quando hubs and skewers (standard Diamondback Peak set up). My problem is that I need to completely remove the knurled nut thing (KNT) in order to remove the wheel. The wheel loosens properly but the KNT fouls on the drop out. The risk as I see it is that I'll lose the KNT and end up stranded by the road side with unicycle. Can post a pic and skewer measurements if that would make it clearer but wondered whether anyone could point me to a solution.

There was a scare a few years ago about wheels coming out if the QR was loose, and disc wheels ejecting. This is why they introduced "Lawyers lips" and this happens. The idea is that even if the QR is loose it cannot eject or be ejected.

Problems with a longer skewer are that it may not have a long enough threaded area to secure tightly and the end may protrude beyond the KNT which can catch and cause injury.
