Shortest cycle lane

I don't know if this is the shortest stretch of marked cycle lane but it must be up there.

I know the reasoning for it is to guide cyclists off the road and onto the pavement cycle path but it still looks crazy, all 5 metres of it.

Am I the only one who thought it was called Smidsy Road at first glance?

I went to school at the Ivanhoe and Ashby Grammer !

It is a bit pointless, a bit like this one where the cycle path forces you onto the road and then you get a bit more cycle path the other side of the industrial estates exit ..

This thread goes to show there are some dozy pranarks in town planning departments all over the country. Anyone designing roads, footpaths,cycle lanes or the like should be made to use them during peak periods.

Actually a good thing in a way as it allows you to turn left out of the bus station against the short one way road legally

There are some pretty good ones in this topic;

Here is mine:
Camera is on a roundabout, so you are supposed to come off the roundabout, go on this bit of track, give way and then re-join the road! Nice.

Not quite right. You can see on the other side of the road is a shared use path on the pavement, so this is actually to get over to that safely by taking you out of the roadway and making it easier for you to look and cross the road whilst on your bicycle. These are more common than you think.

That does make sense! I did wonder why it was there even though there is a cycle/walk path on the other side!
