**Old man serious question alert**

Is calling someone gay as an insult acceptable? I had hoped youngsters nowadays might have moved on a bit...;)

Well....I only ever do it as a childish insult - as playful banter. I never use gay as a truely derogatory term.

A suitable derogatory term is "woman"

This is a lie.
Not many chicks get to lick St Nick's dick.

There is. Infact, most of the elves do

Not going to lie, that post went over my head.

Bernard Manning was a comedian who used to defend his comedy (mostly racist, homophobic and sexist) by saying he never used it to upset anyone, only as good humour.

You may not think the term is hurtful when used in a derogatory manner and defend your use of the term. But others may differ.

I'm very relaxed, just a bit more aware about not being offensive.

It isn't that offensive, and unless somebody had no skin whatsoever, they should not get offended, far worse things are said and done on these forums.

So in what way would it not be 'that offensive' to use it in a derogatory manner?

What other terms would you think as being not 'that offensive'?

Using the term 'Gay' might be OK in the playground or 6th form common room, but not here.

Being politcally correct goes too far sometimes....i'm sure no homosexual person would really care that I used the term gay, unless they are deliberately looking for something to say they are discriminated against.

Calling somebody you are chatting with "black" can be deemed rascist....
All that hype about santa being banned in super markets because it offends ethnic minorities - was it ethnic minorities who complained?...no...it was people looking for a way to justify their living.
