I wonder if anyone can help me, I'm on the verge of buying a Lapierre 500 with SRAM and Ritchey components, very light and looks good. My only worry is that there are no reviews for this bike. I was originally planning on a Ribble sportive bianco but the audacio is much light with better quality bits!

I'm female and would be using it for weekly 20-30 mile rides.

Would I be doing the right thing?

Most of the reviews on the net are from people who don't really know what they are talking about so you can discount them mostly. Lapierre is a respected brand so if it gives you what you want and fits you I am sure you won't be disappointed. Spec looks good but remember it is an out and out sports bike.

Aye, discount all those reviews that you can't find

Lapierre are well respected although they do not have a huge presence in the UK, but I have seen them advertised and for sale in some places - the French pro team FDJ ride Lapierre bikes, and they were on my "short list" for my most recent purchase.

There is nothing wrong at all with Ribble bikes either, but it sounds as if the spec of the Lapierre is better - you could go for a "bike builder" Ribble where you choose the components to put on the frame of your choice; it's nice and easy to do.

Hard to compare the two one's Alu the other carbon, one has SRAM the other campag or shimano. If it was me I would get the Ribble (which I did last year) use the bike builder and go for a campag veloce groupset and upgrade the wheels as much as I thought reasonable, Zonda's.
The appeal of Ribble for me is being able to pick out the components you like but if you're quite new to it then you might not yet have a preference e.g. Campag , Shimano or SRAM so will get used to whatever you get. You're going to get lot's of different opinions and maybe one of those bikes is not better than the other just different. Buy the one you like the look of, I would add ride but getting a test ride is not always possible.

Hi Wendy,

One of my bikes is a Lapierre 400 - lower spec than the one you're looking at so not really a comparison, but I enjoy it. As others have said, if it fits you and feels good then that's your review :-) Lapierre is better known on the continent as I understand it.
