Should i declare an upcoming operation at a job interview?

Yes, the first time I went to sit up after my operation, it was painful and a struggle, as was the mundane things like sitting to standing, going to the toilet etc.

You certainly will not be able to drive or operate any heavy machinery, in fact I spent my first week lying down.

I was lucky in that my hernia was small and did not require a mesh so was stitched together which shortened the recovery and the size of the scar was smaller.

Make sure you stock up on dressings too!

thanks - mine is very small but they are talking about mesh and going home the same day

I was assuming it was minor and I would recover quickly
but at least I now know to ask before the op!!!

Yes it is an in and out in a day but as they need to paralyse your core it’s under a general anaesthetic so you’ll be in a good few hours,
