Should I embed speakers in the ceiling/walls?

Having the kitchen totally revamped, which means I can if I choose do what 'er indores wants and embed speakers in the ceiling...or the walls, before they're skimmed. Do you (can you) get good sound that way? I've always had decent speakers sitting on shelves before, and tho' I can see the aesthetic appeal of 'embedded' speakers, I'm loath to compromise on sound quality. Any thoughts?

Personally I wouldn't do it, but then I'm a traditional old fart and value sound quality highly.

Thats what i did, surround sound system sounds great, nice and neat no wiring to be seen. no dusting of boxes, will never get damaged if you have a party, it's all good.

I have some kefs in my ceiling running off my 7.1 amp

doesnt really affect the bedrooms above as generally its directed back into the room and the bass is done via the sub.

sounds good enough for me for music and movies
