Should I filter differently or not at all?
....which is what annoyed the driver because they do not know whether you are coming or going.
The driver should have been in no doubt as to where I was going and when. As I merged into his lane and as above poster has said, I was moving just after the car in front did.

I only have one question really, exactly how much space was there between the cars when you pulled in to the gap ?
Oddly there are still some drivers who leave a braking distance gap to allow fow emergencies [ie the car in front stopping dead to avoid a child for example], it prevents one long concertina crunch. If you suddenly appear and take up the gap what's he supposed to do [other than hit you] if an emergency occures ? It's a similar situation on motorways when other drivers 'cut in' and eat away the braking distance causing multiple pile ups at which we all go 'tut tut'.
Was this the case or was he just a numpty ? From your video we can't tell.
The only questions I would ask myself about my filtering are these
1 - have I taken away somebodys 'emergency stop' room, and
2 - and a lot of cyclists forget this, have I delayed someone more than really necessary [ie to the extent that it would have p----d me off if someone had done the same to me].
Only you can answer.

Carry more speed whilst filtering? Definitely not. Filtering is one of the riskier things we do, and keeping speed down manages or eliminates all of the additional risks.

I'd say the OP filtered at the right speed there.

As both cars were stationary when I stopped in the gap, no braking distance was lost. I know what you mean though, I hate it when people do it on motorways.

All the driver needed to do was pull away behind me at a steady pace.

Emergency stop gap? All the cars are stopped, so that isn't relevant to this situation.

na, did nowt wrong there m8, i'd have done the same tbh. driver just doesn't like it, not as if you slowed him down or owt as you were clearly keeping up with traffic.

At the first set of lights I wouldn't have pushed through to in front of the stop line but after that I liked your cycling and it is the same as I would have done (did this moning) the driver was just being a tw@t. Probably just down to luck though, I've found that now I'm a stronger/ smoother cyclist when I merge in as the traffic moves off and there seems to be no horns.

No problem with what you did but as with Gaz I would have taken the position 1 or 2 cars back from the front.

Filtering was fine.
Suggestion for next time...
Slow down and stop, in the same road position. Step off the bike, stand back to keep it upright at arms lengths. Give it a visual. Thumb test tyre pressure.
Look at driver.
Shrug – visibly
Smile
Get back on bike and pedal off.

I was taught to try and keep sight of the tyres of the vehicle in front when stopping in a queue. That way if the queue has to shuffle up, if an ambulance needs to get through for example, everyone has somewhere to go. And in a domino collision that space might just be enough to stop your car from hitting the (stationary) one in front too.
I recall my driving instructor also pointing out that if the car in front of you broke down then you would also be able to pull around them if you leave that much space.

Didn’t learn it before my test, but it’s something I picked up since.
T.A.T.
Tyres and Tarmac, what you should be able to see. It also allows for the vehicle infront rolling back if stopped on a hill.

I would add on the first one I would have tucked in behind the van which would have also allowed for a good draft, the last one I would have taken position just behind the motorcycle / scooter. The one you waited on I would have probably passed on the right and got up towards the HGV but always being aware to keep an eye on the lights and be prepared to look at an option of taking / moving into left lane if the lights changed

I know where my towel is
Can't see an issue myself.

My personal preference would have been:
0:13 - waited behind white van in primary
2:30 - carried on past the Honda
3:26 - waited in front of Corsa by scooter and let scooter get away first

Someone may have a difference of opinion to me...
