Should I or shouldn't I?

Very tempted to buy a new bike to replace my Carrera Virago this year. I've been looking at the Cannondale Supersix Evo Red after seeing it at one of the cycle shows. All the reviews seem positive.

Are there better bikes out there to consider or should I just bite the bullet?

Personally, I don't think you can go wrong with a Cannondale, especially something as good as the Supersix Evo. SRAM Red is another thing altogether, it depends if you have used SRAM stuff in the past, or are a Shimano user. There are many differing opinions regards the SRAM double tap shifters. Some people won't use anything else, some find the swap from Shimano to SRAM a great move, some the complete opposite. Only you can decide that for yourself.

Well, there's lots of great bikes out there for similar money, including the Cannondale. Why not ride a few in the same price range to see of you like them better than your Virago? If you do then change if not then don't.

Thanks for the review. I'd read that one but went and double checked anyway. Interesting Canyon comment. Went and checked their site. They don't offer much more in comparable value from what I can see.

As for the SRAM components - I already ride an SRAM bike (granted Apex) and have no problems at all flitting between that and Shimano 105 (on the Virago). I really don't see why people have so many problems. Each has their own strengths but if I'm honest I think I prefer the SRAM. Have used SRAM Rival before too.

The questions you should ask yourself are:
1. Can I justify the cost?
2. Will my wife/gf/other half go ballistic if I buy this bike?

Just be aware that the Supersix Evo of 2013 is not the same as the Supersix Evo of 2012. You'd need to look at the Supersix Evo Hi-Mod to get that top level frameset cachet. How important that is to you is your own decision, but the Ultimate SLX is equivalent to the Hi-Mod. It is that good a frame.

The comments under the reviews would cause me to look elsewhere, or for a 2012 bike though, if I had that sort of money to buy a bike with.

Now torn. Reviews seem to be great. Granted the Askium wheels are (relatively) a bit naff but I have a set of Ksyrium Elites already so could just swap those out. Just guessing that the Evo frame is being phased out and as I'm 45 this year wondering if the more "sportive" frame will be better for me.

Sometimes the bike we want and the bike we need are totally different. I love my racy carbon, lightweight, stiff, low bars but a bit uncomfortable over 90 miles. (47 occasional stiff lower back). My rides seem to be progressing towards 300k Audax's (this Saturday) and I dream of entering LEL, PBP, Vatternrunden. If I had that sort of money I'd be thinking of custom Ti or 953. Did read a review of the Synapse and start drooling though.
