Oooh, the other reason a temporary bike is a good idea is that it gets you rolling but gives you a chance to save some cash and wait for something special. When I eventually got a 'proper' road bike I managed to get one with a Dura Ace Chainset for less than a brand new Dura Ace Chainset!

One thing I would say about buying used is that (IMO) provenance is EVERYTHING!

Get a touring bike and have the best of both worlds.

Not a bad idea at all, I had a Claud Butler Dalesman and bloody loved it!

Cheers Andrew - When i get chance i will post in the wanted section.
I thought about a Hybrid, but not sure i see the point. i guess to me it's either one or the other. I have a MTN bike which i like but use it nowhere near to how it should be used. So i've discovered that 95% of the time i'm on road so a road bike would be ideal.
Thank you everyone else who inputted ideas/suggestions!

See, I like my hybrid because -although I mainly cycle on the road - I'm not brave enough for the drop bars of a road bike.:shy:
Plus, every now and then I find myself having to ride across a field or something.

I was worried about control and it put me off going to drop bars for yonkers, but in reality I feel a lot safer when riding my drops because you can keep really firm hold of the bike while operating the brakes. When on my MTB I feel like I have to relinquish some grip in order to brake.
